A current family membership is required to participate in any playgroup session.
About the Playgroup
Brasileirinhos Playgroup is a Ministry of Education–registered early childhood playgroup offering Portuguese‑language activities for children aged 0 to 5 years. The programme also includes access to physical books and the Elefante Letrado digital reading platform.
Session Days & Times:

Monday, focus on babies and parenting

Wednesday, Saturday: zero to 5 years

9:00 am – 12:00 pm

Fees
-
Monday & Wednesday: Free for members, led by volunteers

Saturday: $100 per term per family or $15 per casual visit (Contributes to facilitator support and programme resources.)
Membership Required
To participate in any Brasileirinhos Playgroup session, families must hold a current Brasileirinhos Aotearoa family membership. Membership supports the sustainability of Casa Brasil and ensures compliance with our organisational and Ministry of Education requirements.
Purpose & Philosophy
Brasileirinhos Playgroup provides a warm, inclusive environment where children learn Portuguese as a heritage language through music, storytelling, movement, art, and play. The programme celebrates Brazilian culture while honouring Aotearoa New Zealand’s bicultural foundations and Te Tiriti o Waitangi.

Programme Structure
Brasileirinhos is a parent‑led playgroup. Activities are designed for shared adult–child participation and may include:

Traditional Brazilian songs and dances

Storytelling in Portuguese

Sensory and creative activities
-
Free play and social interaction
-
Cultural celebrations and seasonal events
Music and movement support motor skills, early literacy, creativity, confidence, and cultural identity.
Parent / Caregiver Responsibilities
To participate in the playgroup, parents and caregivers agree to the following:

A parent or legal guardian must remain onsite at all times.

Adults are fully responsible for supervising the children they bring.

Families contribute to a safe, respectful, inclusive environment.

Playgroup is a “no hurting” zone: we keep ourselves safe, treat others kindly, and care for the environment.

Children should wear comfortable play clothes and bring:

Morning tea

A drink bottle
-
A spare set of clothes

All families are welcome, regardless of Portuguese proficiency.
Health & Safety Requirements
By attending the playgroup, families agree to the following:

Stay home if you or your child are unwell, especially with a contagious illness.

Inform facilitators of allergies, asthma, or other health needs.
-
No smoking or vaping anywhere on the premises.
-
Adults who appear under the influence of drugs or alcohol will be asked to leave immediately.

The playgroup takes all practicable steps to prevent exposure to inappropriate content or unsafe situations.

Behaviour management follows the Policies and Procedures Guide available in the Casa Brasil Library.
Communication
The primary communication channel for announcements, updates, and programme information is the Brasileirinhos Playgroup WhatsApp group. Families agree to join and stay updated through this channel.

By enrolling in Brasileirinhos Playgroup, you acknowledge that you have read, understood, and agree to follow these Terms & Conditions / Playgroup Guidelines for the 2026 year.
